Solutions for Special Education

Help students in special education learn and express themselves like never before

Give students in special education equal access to the curriculum

For too long, students in special education have come up against many barriers to learning. These barriers can include not being able to access text, in the same way their peers do, as well as not being able to demonstrate their mastery of a topic in a traditional way.

With Texthelp tools, students in special education can access and engage with lessons, with confidence, alongside their peers.

What support is available for special ed students?

Learners with additional needs are protected under the Individuals with Disabilities Act. This is a law that makes free appropriate education available to children with disabilities. Students in Special Ed might also be eligible for an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or a Education 504 plan.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a law that makes available a free appropriate public education to eligible children with disabilities throughout the nation and ensures special education and related services to those children.

Students with additional needs might be eligible for an Individualized Education Plan, or IEP. An IEP is offered, free of charge, to students in public schools and outlines the goals and any support services that may be needed for a student to succeed in mainstream education. You can learn more about IEPs and who is eligible on our dedicated page.

A 504 education plan comes from Section 504 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act of 1973. It’s designed to help parents of students with physical or mental impairments work with educators to design customized educational plans to support a student with a disability and remove barriers to learning. The goal is to give the student equal access at school. You can learn more about 504 Education Plans and how they differ from IEPs on our dedicated page.

Texthelp tools, designed with the principles of Universal Design for Learning in mind, give educators and students a range of supports to compliment learning in the classroom and at home.

Helping students to become more confident and independent learners.

Take the pain out of reading

Reading can often be a point of frustration and pain for our students in special education. Whether that’s reading aloud or reading for comprehension. With our tools, students in special education can read with confidence. Whether that’s practizing to read aloud comfortably, or having on-screen text read aloud to them to increase comprehension. Even inaccessible text in images can be transformed into more accessible content for all students.

Read&Write

Help students with learning disabilities, literacy challenges and those students who have IEPs. Read&Write allows them to read, understand and engage with the content of every lesson alongside their peers.

Orbitnote

Educators can easily convert printed text into a PDF with our one-click OCR scanning technology. OrbitNote then takes care of everything else, ensuring that students have access to the tools they need to understand and engage with written text - across all class content.

Fluency Tutor

Fluency Tutor helps students to build oral fluency and confidence to read aloud. Detailed analytics also mean that it’s easy to see where an intervention might be beneficial.

Motivate students to get their thoughts down on paper

For students in our special education cohorts, it can be difficult to translate thoughts in their head into words on a page. Transform the writing experience for students who would traditionally have struggled. With tools like prediction, Talk n Type, and Voice notes students can start to express themselves like never before.

Read&Write

Read&Write gives Special Education students a range of tools to help them get their thoughts down. Useful features help students to write more independently and with greater confidence.

WriQ

WriQ puts students right at the centre of their own writing journey, using nudge theory to spur them on to do a little better than the day before. WriQ data also helps educators see where an intervention might be required.

Deepen understanding and increase engagement in math

Math can be a tricky subject to grasp, as well as demonstrate mastery. Technology is the key to getting students engaged in the math classroom. Making math digital with our tools allows students to grasp new concepts in ways that they can easily understand. It also allows students to respond to math problems and worksheets using various tools.

Equatio

Equatio gives students choice in how they express their understanding of maths concepts. They can choose to type, handwrite or dictate their math problems and answers.

Level the playing field in formative assessments

Equipping students with accommodations at testing time is the only way to make sure that we’re giving them a level playing field to ‘Show what they know’. Whether we’re talking about exit tickets and class tests, or high stakes testing, our tools can be enabled in testing environments to allow students in special education to show their knowledge and reasoning.

Equatio

Equatio offers a digital alternative to formative testing, such as pop quizzes and exit tickets. Equatio provides students with disabilities or learning differences with a range of assessment methods. Students with learning difficulties or visual impairments can hear their math read aloud to them.

WriQ

Consistently assess writing across students and grades using rubrics. Automatically score writing indicators such as spelling, punctuation, and grammar, vocabulary maturity and time on task. WriQ data also helps educators to see where an intervention might be required.

Fluency Tutor

Fluency Tutor helps educators to measure and track oral reading fluency. Detailed analytics mean that it’s easy to track students’ reading progress and see where an intervention might be beneficial.

What our customers say

“Students are more confident in what they are doing instead of raising their hand for teachers to come. They don’t want to feel different. Read&Write has really helped them grow in the classroom.”
