Solutions for Special Education

Help students in special education learn and express themselves like never before

Give students in special education equal access to the curriculum

For too long, students in special education have come up against many barriers to learning. These barriers can include not being able to access text, in the same way their peers do, as well as not being able to demonstrate their mastery of a topic in a traditional way. With Texthelp tools, students in special education can access and engage with lessons with confidence, alongside their peers.

Education Health and Care Plans

Education Health and Care Plans (EHC Plans) identifies educational, health, and social needs for children and young people up to the age of 25. They are designed to support students who need more support than what is available through special educational needs provision in mainstream education. The provisions laid out in an EHC plan usually include some forms of assistive technology (AT).

Texthelp tools, designed with the principles of Universal Design for Learning in mind, give educators and students a range of supports to compliment learning in the classroom and at home. Helping students to become more confident and independent learners.

Take the pain out of reading

Reading can often be a point of frustration and pain for our students in special education. Whether that’s reading aloud or reading for comprehension. With our tools, students with special educational needs can read with confidence. Whether that’s practising to read aloud comfortably, or having on-screen text read aloud to them to increase comprehension. Even inaccessible text in images can be transformed into more accessible content for all students.

Read&Write

Help students with learning disabilities, literacy challenges and those students who have IEPs. Read&Write allows them to read, understand and engage with the content of every lesson alongside their peers.

Orbitnote

Educators can easily convert printed text into a PDF with our one-click OCR scanning technology. OrbitNote then takes care of everything else, ensuring that students have access to the tools they need to understand and engage with written text - across all class content.

Fluency Tutor

Fluency Tutor helps students to build oral fluency and confidence to read aloud. Detailed analytics also mean that it’s easy to see where an intervention might be beneficial.

Motivate students to get their thoughts down on paper

For SEN students, it can be difficult to translate thoughts in their head into words on a page. Transform the writing experience for students who would traditionally have struggled. With tools like prediction, Talk and Type, and Voice notes students can start to express themselves like never before.

Read&Write

Read&Write gives SEN students a range of tools to help them get their thoughts down. Useful features help students to write more independently and with greater confidence.

WriQ

WriQ puts students right at the centre of their own writing journey, using nudge theory to spur them on to do a little better than the day before. WriQ data also helps us as educators to see where an intervention might be required.

Deepen understanding and increase engagement in maths

From learners with Dyslexia to EAL students, we all learn and understand maths in different ways - just like with reading and writing. Equatio allows students to grasp new concepts in ways that they can easily understand. It also allows students to respond to maths problems and worksheets using various tools.

Equatio

Equatio’s accessibility features help your students to be independent in every subject. It improves their learning experiences by giving them choice in how they learn maths. This includes having maths read aloud, using “maths to speech” and taking maths beyond pen and paper to visualise concepts digitally.

Level the playing field at exam time

Equipping students with accommodations at exam time is the only way to make sure that we’re giving them a level playing field to ‘Show what they know’. Whether we’re talking about class tests, or high stakes exams, our tools can be enabled in examination environments to allow students in special education to show their knowledge and reasoning.

Read&Write

Read&write can be used in place of a human reader in exams. It allows candidates with special educational needs, disabilities or temporary injuries to access the assessment without changing the exam. Read&Write’s dictation feature can also be used in place of a human scribe in exams.

OrbitNote

OrbitNote, when used on Chromebooks, can be used in line with the JCQ regulations that govern examinations in the UK. Our easy-to-use exam mode allows easy restriction of features. So that students will only be able to access specific, approved features during their exam, protecting the integrity of the testing scenario. It helps you save time, reduce costs and give students the support they need in exams.

Equatio

Equatio, our digital maths tool, can be used in line with the JCQ regulations that govern examinations in the UK and the SQA guidelines in Scotland. It helps you save time, reduce costs and give students the support they need in exams.
